Grants

Grants are typically offered to entering students on the basis of financial need. The combination of scholarships and grants may not exceed tuition costs.

Federal Pell Grant
This federally funded grant is based on a combination of income and assets. The maximum award for the 2008-09 school year was $4,731. For more information about Pell Grants, visit studentaid.gov.

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG)
This is a federally funded program for full-time Pell eligible U.S. citizens who have completed a rigorous high school curriculum as determined by your state or the Department of Education. Awards for first year students are $750; second year students are eligible for $1,300 if they have at least a 3.0 GPA.

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants
This federally funded program is for third and fourth year full-time Pell eligible U.S. citizens who are majoring in a qualifyiing science or math major and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative college GPA every semester. Awards are $4,000 per year.

Marietta College General Grants
Nearly $5 million dollars in general grants are awarded on the basis of need to students enrolled full time at the College. Determination of need is made using information provided to the Office of Student Financial Services through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Marietta College Financial Aid Form (MCFAF), and supporting documents such as parent and student federal income tax returns. Students may receive funds in subsequent academic years if they continue to demonstrate financial need, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and demonstrate good citizenship.

Marietta College Special Grants
The Legacy Grant is available to the children and grandchildren of Marietta graduates. The award is for $3,500 and is renewable for up to four years provided the student remains in good academic standing. No application is required to receive the grant.

The New England Heritage Grant is awarded to admitted students who are residents of the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. The award is $5,000 and renewable for up to four years making the total possible award $20,000. Students in good academic standing at the end of the academic year will have the Grant renewed for the following academic year. No special application is required to receive the grant.

The Gateway To Education Grant helps ensure that a quality liberal arts education remains accessible and affordable for the College's neighbors. The Marietta College Gateway to Education Grant provides up to $20,000 to area students who enroll in Marietta College. The Grant awards $5,000 per year for up to four years to any admitted freshman or transfer student who is a resident of Athens, Guernsey, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble or Washington counties in Ohio; or, Pleasants or Wood counties in West Virginia. Students must apply and be accepted to the College. No additional application is necessary to be eligible for this grant.
